Suzanis usually have a cotton fabric base, which is embroidered in silk/cotton thread. Chainsatin, and buttonhole stitches are some of the stitches used. There is also extensive use of the COUCHING stitch, in which a decorative thread is laid on the fabric as a raised line, and is stitched in place with a secondary thread. Suzanis are often made in two or more pieces, stitched together.
